Presentation
From history museums to libraries, theatres, dance
companies and bookstores, this interactive Atlas gathers together
more than 1800 cultural structures and facilities spread around
the “Lille Métropole” area, in its cross-border
dimension, and the mining area of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
To consult the maps in the Atlas, it is possible to select all or
part of these cultural structures and facilities via two types of
search :
Search by «domain»
9 domains have been predefined :
| |
Theatre |
| |
Dance |
| |
Classical music and opera |
| |
Other music |
| |
Audio-visual arts and cinema |
| |
Literature |
| |
Fine arts |
| |
Museums |

Activities and Sensitisation |
Within each of the different domains, each cultural
structure and facility is described by its activity(ies); four possible
activities fields have been defined: production, distribution, conservation
and training.
A fifth activity field, commercialisation, which isn’t, by
the way, present in all the domains, has been merged with the distribution
field.
(You can click to have access to the activities that correspond
to each of the 9 domains).
When you choose a search through a domain, all
the cultural structures and facilities concerned appear on the map.
An icon represents each structure or facility for each of its activities.
Some facilities have activities in a number of cultural domains.
This is the case, for example, of the “Phénix”
in Valenciennes that has activities in the dance, music and theatre
domains. This facility therefore appears on the maps as soon as
one of these three domains is selected in the search.
Other facilities have a number of activities in
the same cultural domain. This is the case for the “Théâtre
du Nord” which has a theatre, a production facilities and
a dramatic arts school; it will therefore appear on the «Theatre»
domain map and will be represented by three icons, one for each
of the three activities.
Search by «theme»
It is also possible to consult the Atlas according
to the 7 themes below :
| Festivals |
Concert halls |
| Creation premises |
Training without a diploma |
| Major facilities |
Training for a diploma |
| Cultural development structures |
|
By carrying out a search according to one of these
themes, the cultural structures and facilities concerned appear
as a whole on the maps, whichever cultural domain it belongs to.
In this way, when carrying out a “Festivals” search,
we get the “Festival de Jazz de Tourcoing” as well as
festival “dans@tack” in Courtrai.
The “theme” search does not overlap
on the “domain” search; both approaches are different
and complementary. The representation method of the cultural structures
and facilities remains unaltered; it corresponds to the description
below.
The «major facilities» are those that
correspond to the following criteria :
- an outer-regional influence (importance
of an outer-region audience) or a minimum,
inter-communal influence (influence on a number of communes)
- a great cultural interest (rare
collections, renowned creation structures and premises, etc.)
- a major support from the public sector
(financial support from the public sector above 750 000 euros per
year).
Key reference
To simplify the reading of the maps, all icons that appear on the
maps will respect the following logic.
Each shape corresponds to a
type of facility or structure:
|
|
...
for premises open to the public
(museums, concert halls, etc.) |
|
|
...
for the structures
(theatre companies, orchestras,
etc.) |
|
|
...
for schools and training facilities |
Each cultural function corresponds
in turn to a range of colours:
 |
 |
 |
... for creation and production |
 |
 |
 |
... for distribution |
 |
 |
 |
... for training |
 |
 |
 |
... for conservation |
